A teenage girl was found dead under a pile of leaves after being stabbed and burned while meeting her Facebook friend for the first time, according to police in Pennsylvania.
Philadelphia police said that they have arrested 23-year-old Cole Swaringer-Herring after being accused of killing 15-year-old Sabriya McClean of New Castle, Delaware.
Swaringer-Herring has been charged with murder, arson, and abuse of a corpse.
He was booked into jail and is being held without bail.
According to the police investigation, Swaringer-Herring and McClean connected on Facebook.
On Monday, McClean traveled to Philadelphia and met Swaringer-Herring face to face for the first time. McClean’s parents reported her missing later that day. The two met at his parents’ house located in the 200 block of South 49th Street.
While Swaringer-Herring’s parents were not home, he stabbed the girl more than 80 times. Swaringer-Herring then dragged McClean’s body to the backyard and set her on fire.
A smoke alarm went off and firefighters arrived at the scene. Swaringer-Herring quickly covered the body with leaves and the firefighters did not notice her.
When Swaringer-Herring’s parents came home, he confessed to the murder. The following morning, Swaringer-Herring’s parents called the police to turn their son in.
